4th of July Recap!
We are finally getting back into our daily routine after a long holiday weekend! The kids had a blast, but I think Mama may have had even more fun ;) If you read my last post, you would know I got super sick last week. In true husband/dad fashion Steve called in reinforcements [AKA Grandma]. After I recouped, Grandma ended up taking Jack up to their cabin and on Friday, Steve and Savannah joined them. If you’re doing the math correctly, you now realize I had the house to MYSELF all weekend!! It is one thing to go on a vacation or getaway without the kids, but it’s an entirely different story when you are in your own house alone.
I won’t lie, I missed them about every 30 minutes that they were gone. However, it allowed me to rest, and clean my house top to bottom. [I mean DEEP clean] I managed to fit in a few dinner dates and get some grocery shopping done. I even did a little meal prep for the 4th of July BBQ we had. I would say the majority of my time was spent cleaning, and it took a lot out of me!
I did everything from steam all the cabinets and baseboards to shampooing our carpets. It was actually kind of fun because I got to play around with all my oils when cleaning and it made the house smell so good! I took a few pictures [see below] of the water after cleaning our carpets…oh my, yuck! This is just from Jack’s room. All I used was water, Thieves Household Cleaner & Lemon. Saturday I even managed to go around the house and do all the touch up paint on the walls and baseboards [Yes, I know pregnant women shouldn’t be painting….]. Our house felt brand new!
Everyone asks me how it was being home alone. To be honest, it was definitely really nice, but it was super weird. There were many times, especially at night, where I was just confused with what I should be doing. I almost felt guilty just sitting and watching TV. Don’t get me wrong, once the kids are in bed that is what I usually do anyways. I just figured with the “freedom” I had, I should at least be doing something! I think Edward felt it too ;)
Sunday, late night, the kids and Steve arrived home. Both zonked out and went right to bed. My mother-in-law even did all of their laundry up there so all we had to do was put all the clean clothes away, Wahoo!!
4th of July we started it off with a walk to the big park of course. That walk ended in a melt down from sweet little Savannah. We hung around the house until nap time and then finished up some last minute food prepping before the BBQ.
My parents came over after naptime and we set up the bouncy house outside for the kiddos. Jack thought it was pretty awesome to use it outside [Anyone with kids, I highly recommend investing in one of these!]. We had some delicious food and then ended the meal with some mini fruit pizza cookies. Jack loved decorating his own! These are by far one of the best summer time desserts.
I hope all of you had a great 4th of July!! Now time to crack back down on our daily routine ;)
